2018 marks a big year for Cherry. "It's 10 years since I left my family home in north Wales and put all my musical eggs in one basket and headed for the bright lights of Bedford to pursue this crazy musical journey. I've also spent 20 months of the last four years out of the country travelling the world independently and also touring on 5 different jazz tours on ships. From performing with my Mississippi band in front of Morgan Freeman at his blues club, to riding a camel to explore The Lost City of Petra in Jordan - it literally has been one big voyage!"

Cue new EP release, VOYAGE, a 7-track-breath-of-fresh-air with an added 3 Nashville produced bonus tracks to boot.

The writing on this record has evolved from previous recordings and fans will find a flavour of something different artistically while staying true to the classic Cherry Lee Mewis sound. Those 'be yourself', good-time, fist-pumping, barn-burning songs that her audiences have come to love. Written once again by Cherry and her co-writer and guitarist of 12 years, Max Milligan, they followed the creative energy wherever it flowed by splitting into different writing combinations.
"We write together, or on our own then play each other our ideas, there's no set path," explains Cherry. "I try to write both lyrics and the skeleton of the music of at least two or three songs on each record totally by myself, because I want to keep digging and finding that close connection to telling my story in my music, so i picked up my guitar and dug deep! Once again Max totally helped bring my vision to life. In fact it's our vision and I feel so blessed to have him around me and salt-of-the-earth-people like my band too, we truly are family."

Amen to that as Cherry and her band consisting of Nick Slater (dobro), Robbie Stewart-Mathews (double bass & blues harp) and Brian Greene/Flow (drums) have spent years sharing cramped road journeys on tour as well as hotel rooms, creating the sort of chemistry that can’t be faked.
"I've tried to always be honest in my songwriting and with this EP I feel i've really dug in deep and touched on subjects that people don't always put out there. First and foremost, I just wanted to write about things that I really knew about, subjects that hit close to home and I just took the time to really write. I know who I am musically and that is so important."

One close-to-home subject matter is written about on One Night Stand Boulevard. "I actually started this song 9 years ago," said Cherry. "However it was never finished and I wasn't totally happy with it so I decided to revisit it all these years later. It says what it is on the tin to be honest," she laughs, "growing up there were times when I'd mistake lust for love. It's also about turning a blind eye to the fact that it isn't the real thing but not wanting to let it go either for the risk of losing that quick fix thrill."

On VOYAGE there's many diverse and dynamic sides that comprise Cherry – from the confident, energy-a-plenty swagger of Come Back Home, to the autobiographical Living The Dream, the soulful confessions of The Naked Truth and the heart-wrenching traditional ballad The Water Is Wide that features Cherry’s raw vocals over sparse guitar. And, of course, the thrilling Nashville makeover of 3 songs from 2014's CATCH MY DRIFT album (iTunes), It's Cool, Bride Ain't Me and Old Shoes that feature some of Nashville's finest musicians in a musical reworking of these wonderful songs that simply had to be shared.

Voyage EP offers a little bit of everything. There’s bluesy slide guitar, southern rock solos, harmonies, and plenty of groove. The hooks are big, the guitars are loud, and the songs — every last one of them co-written and/or arranged by Cherry and Max and it's available to pre-order.

The winter of 2008 saw Cherry finally pack her bags for good and leave her tiny village hometown of Mochdre in north Wales, to her adopted home of Bedford - "I've been making music here since I was 17, so it's not totally alien to me, but moving permanently away from family and loved ones was and it left me facing totally new life experiences..."
Cherry served her apprenticeship endlessly gigging in clubs and bars in her hometown from the age of 11, developing not only her powerful soulful voice, but her performance and style too.
On her debut, LITTLE GIRL BLUE, Cherry along with long-time musical collaborator and guitarist, Max Milligan, re-arranged 11 early blues numbers, including songs by Memphis Minnie, Robert Johnson and Jelly Roll Morton, singing with raw power and emotion, hurt and pain.
2009: Her sophomore blues effort, SOUTHBOUND TRAIN, released October 2009, was a heady mix of original foot-stomping barnburners to bluesy slow-cooked rockers with a spoonful of jazzy shuffle and supported by a band of slick smokin' musicians.
Southbound Train was received with open arms citing comments such as "Southbound Train is here for fans of classic blues as polished as it is raw and untamed" (Maverick Magazine).

ABOUT Cherry Lee Mewis
Genre: Acoustic Roots/Blues/Country
Record Label: Indie

2012: Cherry and her band being the 'Artist in Session' on Paul Jones' BBC Radio 2 show in May 2012 where they were invited to record 4 tracks at the legendary Maida Vale Studios
2012 started with a bang with the release of Cherry's third studio album, the aptly titled HEARD IT HERE FIRST and was described as Cherry's best work to date. Bursting full of brand new material, 9 of the 11 tracks were once again from the pen of Cherry and Max.

2013: Cherry was personally asked by Bernie Marsden of Whitesnake to accompany him on his upcoming UK tour
2013: The 5ft-nothing, power-house singer songwriter grabbed the musical bull by the horns, and together with her smokin' hot band including long-time collaborator and guitarist Max Milligan, produced an exquisite and exciting self-penned third studio album; the aptly titled HEARD IT HERE FIRST (Feb 20, 2012 - iTunes). An 11-track-breath-of-fresh-air in a somewhat predictable blues music scene. The album took the solid roots of Cherry's debut album; Oct 9, 2007's LITTLE GIRL BLUE (iTunes) and the foot-stomping vibe of her sophomore, Oct 9, 2009's SOUTHBOUND TRAIN (iTunes), and pushed the boundaries even further, taking in the best of musical influences while still keeping that elusive Cherry Lee Mewis treatment that gave the record a real punch.

2014: On April 18, 2014 she released a 10-track set CATCH MY DRIFT (iTunes) the album was reviewed in Country Music People Magazine by (Paul Riley) who wrote:
Tom Jones is not the only singer from Wales who belt out a good blues/country song, we also have Cherry Lee Mewis who hails from North Wales….with Cherry Lee’s new disc the future seems very bright for her, the musical partnership with Max Milligan, is alive with the possibilties for the future and Catch My Drift is an addictive slice of adventurous country/ blues
