REVIEW: Melanie Greggain debut single Ready To Run lands a No1

Melanie Greggain releases debut single Ready To Run (FFO: Miranda Lambert, Carly Pearce, Ashley Monroe)

Multi-award winning singer-songwiter Melanie Greggain surprised her fans with the release of her debut single "Ready to Run"( co-writer Ann Bailey-Simmons aka “Thunderlungs”), which marks a return for the vocalist of award winning country duo Luke & Mel
Melanie has spent time honing her craft as a singer and songwriter since she was a young girl and has won an impressive 5 BCMA Awards for her work as one half of British Luke & Mel.
During that time they supported everyone from Engelbert Humperdinck to Will Hoge and one-third of the Pistol Annies’ Angaleena Presley, while also securing support from the BBC, with a firm champion in Gaby Roslin.

With her skill as a lyricist having shone through in Luke & Mel's material, a tumultuous 18 months in her personal life has lead to her most personal and insightful single to date. With further material to follow early in 2017, and with BBC Introducing championing her material already, Melanie is ready to take the big solo step and move you with her unforgettable melodies and flawless vocals.
‘Lovely. Just lovely!' - Gaby Roslin, BBC Radio London
"Proving that UK Country music can sound both fresh and contemporary whilst retaining a rewardingly traditional feel at its heart"- New Country UK

Ready to Run’ is a real standout and it puts Mel on the map as the next big thing” — Lyric Magazine

Melanie Greggain - Ready to Run (Single)
Release Date: 22 Nov 2017
Label: Independent (2017 Melanie Greggain)
Time: 4:25

Chart run & success:
Debut: #2 UK iTunes Country Singles (#300 UK iTunes Singles overall) and later peaked at #1 (ahead of John Denver’s Take Me Home, Country Roads”) | Fri Nov 24 #27 (#1486 UK iTunes Singles overall) | Sat Nov 25: #151

Intrigued at the Country To Country 2017 Festival Stages by who Melanie just might be playing the Big Entrance 16:30 slot on Sat March 11th was not to find the renowned American Folk/Pop "Brand New Key singer-songwriter but Melanie Greggain flying solo who was one halve of British Country Music Association multiple award winning Luke & Mel (Luke Thomas & Melanie Greggain). After a tiring long day her set felt somewhat marred by a at times distorted and overamplified performance not helped by a sound engineer who seemed to think the whole of the O2 Arena needed to hear it. He did her no favours but it was evidence that she was on a new musical path as a solo act!
I was first taken aback when I heard this new single when it was showcased on CMR Nashville (Europe’s No.1 Country Station) in early July and was anxious to hear it again!

With its gentle acoustic stirring and a purring plaintive organ Ready to Run unfolds into a wonderfully crafted melodic score with uncompromising honest lyrics where each chosen word holds water as a shuffling beat maintains the fine pleasant-sounding flow.
They say some of best country songs are break up numbers, well this is one of them. Out of confusion and a stormy situation along comes something rather special. It was penned with Melanie’s frequent co-writer Ann “Thunderlungs” Bailey (Ward Thomas, Jess and the Bandits) who also had a hand with the terrific 2015 British Country Music Awards UK Song of the Year “Something About A Woman” for Luke & Mel.

The song references “the face the one who betrayed her” where “her eyes are always giving away what she hides, what hurts her”
She paints on fake smiles that mirror the hollow words from a partner.

They’ll never be enough makeup to hide the situation
Never be enough truth to ease the suffocation (?)

Pictures on the wall “where the history hangs” unexpectedly reveal tell-tale signs of detonation. Times passes, rapport quickly fades she’s at her wits end hanging on by a thread
When the part of you that she holds on to finally breaks

The neat Mark Knofler-esque guitar licks wash over and compliments Melanie’s voice which shines. The lady is ready to “walk on by, pick up her pride and move on”!

She’s ready to run,
She’s ready, she’s ready to run
She’s ready to say goodbye to the reconcile and move on
Yes, she’s ready to run

Melanie Greggain's debut solo single, Ready to Run, has taken the UK Country iTunes No.1 Spot on release day!

"I literally don’t know how to find the words" explained Melanie. "I just dropped that I would be releasing the single the day before and was hoping to chart for the first time as a solo artist and then all of a sudden here I am with a number one! It’s been a crazy week and it’s been super tense watching the chart updates."
"I would like to thank everyone for the huge amour of support and for all the lovely messages, downloads and shares from my amazing fans, family and friends. Words can’t express my appreciation to you all."
Ready to Run is Greggain's first solo single since the demise of the duo Luke & Mel and has given the country singer her first ever number one!

Lanco makes history on Billboard’s Country Airplay Chart

Lead Singer Brandon Lancaster Becomes Only Country Artist In Over a Decade
to Perform and Pen First Chart-Topping Hit Alone

Band’s Authentic Style Resonates Nationwide Landing On Pandora and Hits Magazine “Watch List"

NASHVILLE, TN - Nov. 20, 2017 - Sony Music Nashville’s breakthrough band LANCO earned their first-ever No.1 on the Billboard Country Airplay chart this week with the GOLD single “Greatest Love Story” off their self-titled EP. “Shaking up the Country charts” with "his confessional style lyrics" (Entertainment Weekly), lead singer Brandon Lancaster takes credit as the sole writer behind the hit, marking the first time in over ten years an artist's first No. One on the chart has been solely written by the artist. Simultaneously, this week’s top-selling new group reaches No1 on Billboard's Emerging Artist Chart ending Dua Lipa’s six-week reign at the top spot on the all-genre chart.

It’s absolutely incredible to write a song that our entire band has believed in since day one...and for our years of hard work to finally pay off,” said lead singer Brandon Lancaster. "We built our foundation as a band on ‘Greatest Love Story’ because we believed in the power of Country music story telling. To see how much it has resonated with so many people makes us feel little less crazy for believing in it so much. We also acknowledge the hard work effort that is put into achieving this from our team, record label and Country radio and if it wasn’t for them we would probably still playing this song to empty bars for anyone who would listen.”

"Few bands have have generated as much buzz as LANCO" (Pop Culture) as they were just named one of Pandora's "2018 Country Artists To Watch” and were also hand selected as this month’s Hits Magazine “Vibe-Raters."  As their groundswell movement reaches new heights, Lancaster reigns at No. One for a seventh consecutive week on the Top Country Songwriters chart, based on streams, sales and airplay and he serves as the only artist to reach this accolade in 2017. Critics nationwide have raved about LANCO’s “Greatest Love Story," leaving high exceptions for their forthcoming full-length debut set for release in early 2018.
“A tender first exposure for many listeners, but it just scratches the surface for LANCO. The five-piece offers an energetic live show and songs with an upbeat worldview, a welcome elixir for the pessimism of modern times." - Billboard

“A sentimental misfit’s anthem, powered by sweeping romanticism and emotive lyricism."— Hits Magazine

“Served as the backdrop for countless proposals this summer, with numerous fans popping the question during LANCO's live performances." - Entertainment Tonight

"The nostalgic single…is the kind of love story from days gone by, the one you learned about from your grandparents and their generation, when times where simpler and so was love. It’s the love story we all still want to believe in." – CMT
LANCO's self-titled debut EP can now count more than 100 million streams. Already named as "the band to watch" by Bobby Bones, CMT, Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Spotify and more, LANCO gained their momentum from touring the country’s top festivals including Bonnaroo, Lollapalooza, Austin City Limits, Watershed, Faster Horses and more. Opening for artists such as Dierks Bentley, Brothers Osborne and Jake Owen, LANCO continues to make “notable first impressions” (The Desert Sun) as direct support for Dustin Lynch's THE RIDE OR DIE TOUR and will head out in January for Chris Young's LOSING SLEEP WORLD TOUR. Additionally, LANCO was just announced as performers for the inaugural Rare Country Awards (12/14) where they are nominated for “Best New Artist”.

Billboard Top 200 / Country Album Chart News (Chart issue week of December 2, 2017)

The Billboard 200 chart measures multi-metric album consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).

Taylor Swift's 'Reputation' Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Albums Chart
'reputation' is her fifth No. 1 on the list, following '1989,' 'Red,' 'Speak Now' and 'Fearless.'
Taylor Swift with REPUTATION blasts in at No.1 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart (BB200) with 2017’s biggest week for an album, as the set earned 1.238 million equivalent album units in the week ending Nov. 16, according to Nielsen Music. Of that sum, 1,216,416 copies were in traditional album sales -- the largest sales frame for an album since 2015.
Reputation is Swift’s sixth studio album and was released on Nov. 10 through Big Machine Records. It is her fifth No.1 on the Billboard 200.

Reputation surpassed the total sales of the year’s previous No.1 seller, Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (Divide), which has sold 931,000 through Nov. 16.
Reputation’s whopping 1.216 million sales figure is the 10th largest sales week for any album since Nielsen Music began electronically tracking sales in 1991. Further, Reputation secures Swift her fourth million-selling week. She is the only artist in Nielsen Music history to achieve four million-selling weeks. (Previously, both Swift and Adele had three million-selling frames.)

Swift earlier earned million-selling weeks with the debut weeks of each of her last three studio albums: 1989 (1.287 million in 2014), RED (1.208 million, 2012) and SPEAK NOW (1.047 million, 2010).
Overall album sales have been declining for years, so nearly equalling Swift’s previous album, 1989, a feat from three years ago is an achievement.
REPUTATION’S first-week sales tally (in traditional album sales) is nearly equal to the first-week sales tallies of this year’s next four fastest-breaking albums combined. They are Pink’s Beautiful Trauma (384K), Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN. (353K), Ed Sheeran’s ÷ (322K), and Drake’s More Life (226K).
REPUTATION also entered the official U.K. Albums Chart at No. 1. It’s Swift’s third consecutive studio album to top the U.K. chart.

Billboard Top Country Albums (Chart issue week of December 2, 2017)
Top Country Albums now ranks the most popular country albums of the week, as compiled by Nielsen Music, based on multi-metric consumption (blending traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA), and streaming equivalent albums (SEA)).
10 digital track sales from an album = 1 track equivalent album (TEA) “sale”
1,500 on demand song streams from an album to one streaming equivalent album (SEA) “sale”.
Nielsen Music compiles the sales and streaming data. Billboard continues to publish pure album sales charts (subscription to billboard biz ), exclusively comprising Nielsen’s sales data.
